 ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

 Jordan Edwards

1. What was life like before you became a member?

Before I joined, my life wasn’t anything spectacular. Total opposite of what I’m doing now. I used to go bowling in leagues about 3 to 4 days a week. In the summer months, I played plenty of golf which I still enjoy doing. Diet wise I ate very unhealthy & I drank quite a bit. During that time, I thought I was satisfied with that lifestyle.

 2. At the time you enrolled, were you already exercising? What was your previous background in fitness?

When I was younger, I played baseball up until I was 16 years old. While in High School I was a sprinter in Track. I am a seasonal worker and only exercised during the winter months whenever I had time and work was slow. When I went to the gym, I would go on the elliptical machine, run on the treadmill and do some lightweight lifting.

 3. What originally prompted you to seek us out?

My sisters Stacey & Alison threw me into the fire.

 4. What was your goal when you originally signed up?

My goal is like everyone else’s. To lose weight and look good with my shirt off. Well, I didn’t really have a goal at first. I Just wanted to complete the boot camp and that was it. After winning $50 and finishing 2nd in the challenge, my sisters encouraged me to sign up for another boot camp. After my second completion of boot camp, I was still skeptical on joining CrossFit. I was intimidated by the high intensity workouts, heavy lifting and possibly injuring myself. Once I noticed I was losing weight, my clothes were getting bigger and I was getting stronger, I thought I would give it a try and now it’s a part of my life.

5. What have you liked best about working with us?

The coach’s on how detailed they are on teaching us the lifts and workouts and our community. I love being surrounded by positive people. We are all here for the same reason. To better ourselves. Your Motto says it all. “Stronger Together “

6. What are you most proud of achieving since you started?

The thing I am most proud of achieving since I started is that I’m more active than I’ve ever been. I have more energy than I ever did before. I feel like I’m in the best shape of my life ever since I was a teenager.

7. With everything that you have accomplished, has your view of yourself changed?

Absolutely, I didn’t think I was this strong or as mobile. I have more confidence in myself than ever before.

8. What would you say to anyone else who might be dealing with any similar struggles you did?

If you have a slight doubt in your mind that you’re unhappy with yourself, only you can to do something about it. Life is too short to be stressed out and unhappy.

9. Do you have any special moments/memories?

I will never forget. It was October 2016. It was the first time I stepped foot into this building. I was pushing 230 lbs. Probably the biggest I’ve ever been, probably the worse shape of my life. My sisters brought me here for bring a friend night. I think it was a 20-minute AMRAP workout which consisted of lots of running. Along with an exercise movement in between. By about the 2nd round I thought I was going to die. I hated it. I Thought to myself…. I am not coming back. Then January 2017 after I got back from My New Year’s trip from Jamaica, there was 1 spot open and my sisters talked me into joining the world’s best boot camp and brought me here for enlistment day. The baseline workout was, 100 jumping jacks, 40 air squats, 30 sit-ups 20 push-ups & 10 burpees. I think there was a 10-minute time cap. I was so out of shape, that I couldn’t finish the workout. Then 6 weeks later, after going to the classes twice a week, we had our graduation day. My sisters were there to watch. You had to do the baseline again and see if you beat your old time from when you first started. I think I did it under 5 minutes. After my 10th burpee, I looked at the clock and I started to ball my eyes out. I was so overwhelmed on what I just did. I couldn’t hug and squeeze Stacey & Alison hard enough. I credit them that they pushed me to where I’m at today.

10. What is your favorite movement/lift?

I like a lot of the lifts. Power cleans, Clean & Jerk, Deadlifts & throw some burpees in there as well.

I would like to thank Tim & Alli for creating this awesome place I call my 2nd home. I feel like I started a new life. If it wasn’t for any of this, I wouldn’t have met the woman I love, my best friend Tressie.
