ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

Kelly Jones

1. What was life like before you became a member?

I was 46 years old and very unhappy with how I looked and felt. I was tired all the time and my weight just kept going up. I went to a Dr. who told me he would hate to be a woman in her forties because everything starts to fall apart. I left his office and decided to change and become an exception to his thinking. I am now 49 years young and can’t wait to show that Dr. what a 50-year-old can do!!!!

2. At the time you enrolled, were you already exercising? What was your previous background in fitness?

I would run occasionally with my husband and attend a local gym where I would use the elliptical or treadmill. I never felt like I belonged and struggled to make any improvements no matter how often I went.

3. What originally prompted you to seek us out?

A friend of mine and her son had just finished boot camp and I saw the amazing results she had. I knew I had to try this program!!!

4. What was your goal when you originally signed up?

I honestly thought I would lose some weight and then go back about my business. I had no idea that it was going to change my entire outlook on fitness and my life.

5. What have you liked best about working with us?

EVERYTHING!!!! I love the fact that the workout is completely different every day so that you never get bored. I especially love the community and support that I receive at Keystone. We are a family and no matter what level you are at in your fitness you will get encouragement and support.

6. What are you most proud of achieving since you started?

So many things it is hard to nail down. The day I did my first 20-inch box jump was amazing. I think I told everyone I saw that day what I did. Box jump was a hurdle I wanted to beat from day one. I set goals for myself each year and chip away at them in class and at home. Currently working on perfecting pushups and working to get toes to bar.

7. With everything that you have accomplished, has your view of yourself changed?

ABSOLUTELY!! I think the most transforming is my mindset that I am an athlete. I was never very athletic growing up and suffered from asthma as a child that kept me from being active. I always admired athletes and wanted to do that. Keystone CrossFit has helped me reach a goal that I have wanted my entire life.

 8. What would you say to anyone else who might be dealing with any similar struggles you did?

Just do it. I was so scared that first day walking into the gym. I thought CrossFit was only for people that were already in shape. I quickly realized it is for everyone and anyone who wants to improve and get fit. Do not be intimidated, the coaches are amazing and can help you so much achieve your goals no matter how old/young or what level of fitness you are currently at.

9. Do you have any special moments/memories?

Walking in on day one of boot camp and seeing my name on the board. I instantly felt like I belonged here. I was a member of another gym for years and they never knew I existed. Also meeting and becoming friends with so many awesome people.

10. What is your favorite movement/lift?

I love a push press…. I just love the strength I feel getting a heavy bar overhead. I also love a Tabata work out.

Keystone CrossFit is so much more that a gym. It is a family. We help each other get better every day by encouraging and holding each other accountable.

I have been married to my husband Ed for 29 years. We went to school together and have been together since. He is my sole mate and best supporter for hitting my goals.
