ATHLETE OF THE MONTH
1. What was life like before you became a member?
Honestly, life was pretty stagnant. Random hikes with my dogs and running around at work was about as active as it got.
2. At the time you enrolled, were you already exercising? What was your previous background in fitness?
I was always active when I was younger with high school sports, but as I had gotten older, I had lost that motivation. I had tried Planet Fitness and home workouts in the past, but it never had a lasting effect. I felt like I never knew what I was doing and quickly my motivation turned to frustration and ultimately giving up.
3. What originally prompted you to seek us out?
I was finally at a point in my life that I was just tired; tired of feeling like crud every day and not having any energy, tired of having no self-esteem, tired of eating my frustrations; I had packed on 30+ pounds and I honestly didn't even feel like myself anymore. I needed to do something to get myself out of this funk that I had been in and it needed to happen ASAP!
4. What was your goal when you originally signed up?
Originally, I just wanted to lose a few pounds and get some confidence back.
5. What have you liked best about working with us?
ALL OF THE THINGS!!
Community support, competition (whether that be with myself or others at the box) and the accountability that Coach Tim has given me is indescribable.
6. What are you most proud of achieving since you started?
I have a few, but definitely getting the weight off that I had gained (plus a few pounds)
Finally, being able to do double unders in a WOD and not taking 900 years to finish. That 20" box scared the hell out me for so long, but to be able to get out of my own head and do it!
7. With everything that you have accomplished, has your view of yourself changed?
Absolutely! I have more confidence and have got my self-esteem restored. I also know now that I can do anything if I get out of my own way.
8. What would you say to anyone else who might be dealing with any similar struggles you did?
Remove whatever doubt you may have about yourself and get moving, you will never know what you're truly capable of unless you give yourself a chance.
Stay consistent and the results will come; everyday isn't going to be easy, nor will it be perfect, but at the end of the day you're putting everything you have into it.
Change your mind frame; have some faith in yourself (because you're definitely worth it!) and absolutely anything is possible.
Most importantly surround yourself with people who are going to challenge you, keep you accountable and cheer you on; you will be unstoppable!
9. Do you have any special moments/memories?
Holiday Throwdown with Mel Y, it was the first competition that I had ever been a part of and didn't know what to expect, but the entire day was a blast and we got to kick some ass!!
10. What is your favorite movement/lift?
My most favorite are squat cleans, someday I hope to love the snatch as much as I do this one (It's a love hate thing right now). I also love me some "Karen" and "Grace ''.
This is such an honor and feel so blessed to be a part of the KCF family. The sense of camaraderie I don't believe you will find at any other box. I will forever be grateful to Coach Tim in what he has helped me to achieve in such a short period of time and the members for making everyday a great time, no matter how brutal the WOD may be. I'm excited to continue on this fitness journey and work towards the day that I'll be able to do all the fun CrossFit things the "cool kids" can do.
