1. What was life like before you became a member?  Astonishingly in my senior years, stressed, and unexpectedly retired, I found myself in new circumstances and in need of building a new life.

2. At the time you enrolled, were you already exercising? What was your previous background in fitness?  I started exercising in a small group training program at my local gym during Covid. I loved it. I never considered myself athletic, but I could see progress over the months. However, the program ended. I also realized that I lacked confidence, discipline and knowledge to work out smartly on my own.

3. What originally prompted you to seek us out? I was (am) a friend (Laureen’s) during “bring a friend week”.

4. What was your goal when you originally signed up?  With good reason I have lost faith (the operative word) in much of our current medical system. I wanted to move forward by taking responsibility for my own health.

5. What have you liked best about working with us? Every day has a different group of exercises which minimizes “routine”, but they all have an expected structure for maximum output. The movements challenge the whole body. I value the consistent guidance for using proper form to avoid injury and that I can modify exercises to match my abilities as needed.

6. What are you most proud of achieving since you started? I think I can see a muscle. But more importantly, I FEEL better in every way: I have better balance and stamina and I am more focused and goal oriented in my daily life.

7. With everything that you have accomplished, has your view of yourself changed?  I have gained self-confidence. I feel just a bit more prepared to tackle whatever I wish in the world. Athletically, and in addition to CrossFit which I consider my foundation, I have been running—two years, so of course I am now attempting to run a marathon for the first time.

8. What would you say to anyone else who might be dealing with any similar struggles you did?  With just an hour of physical discipline at least a few times a week you can set a pattern for achievement that affects all areas of your life.

9. Do you have any special moments/memories? I was able to climb a rope, that was a surprise, but my best memories are from the kind of people who undertake CrossFit. Everyone here has goals, drive, and determination. All are so kind and helpful. All are inspirational. It is a wonderful community.

10. What is your favorite movement/lift? “Favorite” is a strong word, but I think I would like bar pull ups, although I can’t do one yet!

The coaches at Keystone CrossFit are wonderful. The community of members—diverse in ages and abilities—are united in their drives to improve. The program emphasizes optimal health and wellbeing. The people at Keystone CrossFit offer a blueprint for positive living.
